Other Projects

Since starting out, Alex has always naturally moved between departments and disciplines.

This has featured scenic, lighting, sound and video design, as well as costume design and prop-making. This also includes stage management, with experience in every role from assistant stage manager to production manager.

As well as casual work at Bristol Old Vic and Theatre Royal Bath, Alex is a regular technician for Ed Monster Events and has worked in this team with a wide variety of companies and projects.

This has featured local companies, touring productions, club nights, youth groups and corporate and comedy events.

Writing

Outside of production work, Alex has worked as a writer and dramaturg on a variety of long-term projects, including plays, translations and adaptations of lesser-known European work.

In 2011, he took part in the National Theatre’s New Views playwrighting programme, then in its second year. Recently, his short piece ‘Wishful Thinking’ was performed as part of Black Hound Theatre’s Creative Collaborations project.

A keen musician since a young age, Alex has worked with a range of ensembles over the years. As an aspiring music scholar, he’s particularly interested in the early jazz and dance band music of the 1920s and 30s. In period productions such as ‘Antony and Cleopatra’, ‘Tales from the Jazz Age’ and ‘Living with Demons’, he was lucky enough to work closely with the creative team; advising and providing insight into the detail of the period. He also has a growing record collection and can often be spotted at flea markets.
